Pause: A Silent Retreat by occupational therapist, Dr. Brittany Conners

It has been a week where the necessity of making space for pause and silence, then taking action, has been possibly more noticeable and valued. Whether you are busy and don’t know how to stop, “wearing busy as a badge”, as Dr. Conners describes, or are trying to figure out how taking a pause enables you to do the rest of the things you wish to do in life—noticing the amount of rest required is certainly valuable time spent

This week we pause to notice people who are facilitating these opportunities and helping us to reset our relationship and balance between rest and action. Occupational therapists are often described as experts of everyday living which many think of as doing. In the video below, you’ll learn more about why noticing the full score of life includes not just the notes of the doing in life, but just like music— our daily living requires rests as well.

As we approach autumn in the US, it is a time to regroup, refuel, and notice what is possible to make space and create space for others for rest that restores. Opportunities to help in that surround us and the Pause Silent (ish) retreat is one of them.
