Reflecting on Gratitude, Grief, and Growth

Good day, dear readers.

It’s hard to believe we just had our first Saturday of November, but here we are. Wherever you are, I hope it was the kind of day that provided just the right mix of what you needed to simply be, that your doing nourished your spirit and the spirits of others, and that you felt appreciated.

The photo above is a scene from a fall walk I enjoyed partially with me just me, the trees, and the sounds of birds and other animals and partially with the company of my brother and niece. This walk was part of the occupations that nourished my day and perhaps in some small way the image above may nourish you as well.

Preparing for the theme of Reflect with Reflective Questions

This month our theme will be Reflect. We’ll talk more about that tomorrow, but today I wanted to mention that gratitude, grief, and growth are three of the key areas we will talk about influencing how we occupy our time and what our daily routines feel like with tending to all three of them.

We are getting back into the weekly reflective questions rhythm for you all so thought we’d kick start November with a few on these topics.

1) Who is someone whose service or role may often go unnoticed, but regularly makes your life easier? How might you show gratitude to them?

2) What do you notice in your body when you suspect you may be experiencing grief? Are you more irritable? Forgetful? Tired? Do you feel heaviness or tightness? What do you notice in others that might be signs they are experiencing grief?

3) Growth mindset. Peter Simon talked about having a growth mindset this week on the blog. If you haven’t checked out his post yet, you can find it here:

How do you connect with his reflections? Whether you are a student or in any other role where you are learning something new or observing others learning— what helps you embrace the mantra Peter mentions, “I’m still growing”?
